About the Artist
Hello! My name is Kate Armstrong and I am the creator of Studio Masaye. “Muh-sigh” :)
I was having a hard time finding the perfect name for my art instagram, as there are one billion Kate Armstrongs in the world.. and it finally hit me that my middle name is the most uniquely personal thing to me. Thus, Studio Masaye was born.
I grew up in Berkeley, CA and have had so many inspirational art teachers from a young age, which led me to eventually receive a B.A. in Art from UCLA. I moved to NYC post-grad and founded Studio Masaye in 2020. I just moved back to the Bay where I have continued to create as best I can!
I am a total medium hopper.. I do everything from jewelry making and basic metalsmithing, to painting, printmaking, paper cut art, sewing, drawing, embroidery… the list goes on!
In forming this site, I had a few goals. I wanted to learn how to make a more polished way for people to view my work as well as donate some proceeds to various organizations doing the most important work in the world. Eventually this website will be home to not only my jewelry, but many other types of art - a half portfolio, half commerce website.
I by no means want this to become a full time job, nor do I think I have the discipline to do that, but I just hope that people can enjoy my handmade work and I can sustain my work as a form of therapy.
